Resolved Broken Lead to Cash Implementation at Philips

September 6, 2022 - Impact Story

Client Overview
PHILIPS, USA

Philips, One of the World's Top 5 Medical Devices Companies.

Sells MRIs, ultrasound machines, pacemakers, x-ray machines, surgical machines, and other similar products.

Contracts with multiple group purchasing organizations and integrated delivery networks that supply much-needed equipment to hospitals.

Every product catalog change event meant generating and loading millions of rows of pricing data. Having 17 million rows of data for a quarterly full catalog update delayed using new pricing data for quoting by days or even weeks. Price calculations on a typical quote could take 2—3 minutes—an average coffee break—and exponentially longer for any quotes with a large number of products.

THE PROBLEM

Every product catalog change event meant generating and loading millions of rows of pricing data. Having 17 million rows of data for a quarterly full catalog update delayed using new pricing data for quoting by days or even weeks. Price calculations on a typical quote could take 2-3 minutes—an average coffee break—and exponentially longer for any quotes with a large number of products.

Philips couldn’t even include all their data. Trying to include the North American market, a significant part of their business, risked poor scalability and deteriorating the catalog update process even further.

This all amounted to a poor user experience for both users and customers. Users complained that pricing calculations took several minutes to complete and were sometimes incorrect, citing this as a major challenge to transitioning to a Conga-based CPQ solution from their prior legacy application.

Philips Healthcare Cuts Pricing Calculation Time by 85% by Reducing Pricing Data Volume.

“Speed of quote generation is just one aspect of this solution. The most important part is the confidence that error-free quotes gave our Sales personnel.”

Business Process Owner, Philips

THE SOLUTION

After working with Philips’s team to learn about their pricing model and requirements, CommerceCX proposed that by significantly reducing their pricing data volume, we could accelerate their quoting process, ensure fast and accurate contract pricing, and boost their user and customer experiences.

CommerceCX engineered our solution to reduce Philips’s 17 million rows of data to 1 million. This solution supported all pricing use cases, and reduced pricing computation time by 85%.
